Discover the diversity and potential of multimedia. Explore graphics, illustration, typography, web design, multimedia production, 2D and 3D animation, desktop video production and special effects. You will produce traditional and digital creative work while developing your visual, written and oral communication skills through contextual studies and professional studio practice. You will explore Italian Renaissance art and learn about perspective alongside the study of Manga and contemporary artists such as Takashi Murakami

You will also create ideas and solutions to meet industry-standard briefs. Assessment is continuous and the course ends in a final project where you can specialise in an area of your choice. You will use professional software packages such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Director. You will learn how to use scanners, printers, digital and video cameras. You will also have the opportunity to study an additional A level in Art, Media or Photography to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Off-site visits to galleries and other educational institutions will compliment and inform your practical work. Students from this course have an excellent track record in relation to progression to higher education. We have strong links with Ravensbourne, Bournemouth and London College of Communication who all offer advice and guidance on portfolio content.

Where this course might take me:
You could progress to very popular career routes in games, animation, multimedia authoring, interactivity and digital applied art, or to a Higher Education course.

For Matthew Jones, this course took him to University at Ravensbourne:

“Tower Hamlets College has made me want to achieve, the best thing is that THC offers me comfort and security, it has made me take my work seriously and opened my mind to career choices,” says this Ex-Langdon Park student.

Tower Hamlets College has helped Matthew reach his full potential, by setting him on route to a specialist design summer school and a work placement with Framestore, one of the largest digital visual effects company in Europe, as well as another at Channel 4. Now he’s off to Ravensbourne, a specialist art university to study Production for Web-delivered Media.

Matthew has always been fascinated by animation. He wanted to see the bigger picture of what he can do with his talent, so he enrolled on a BTEC course at Tower Hamlets College after receiving some much needed advice from College staff members who sensed both his commitment and worries about studying. “My course pushed me creatively, I used to find places like The Tate Gallery boring but now I really appreciate it and admire the work some artists do,” commented Matthew. “I really enjoyed College, it was great!” he adds.
