A level Art at THC is an exciting, multidisciplinary course that introduces you to a range of methods and techniques for producing practical art work including: drawing and painting, graphics and printmaking. Our Art A level encourages use of research, experimentation and analysis and you will learn to explore and develop your own creative ideas. The teacher is a practising artist who brings his professional expertise and personal experience to the course.

Through a combination of studio-based art work, presentations and individual research you will explore the work and ideas of contemporary artists in order to develop your creative ideas and technical skills. In the art studio you will be experimenting with a range of media in 2D and 3D whilst working to broad themes for coursework and exam units. Keeping a journal or sketchbook will help you to collect visual and written evidence to support your creative ideas. The skills and knowledge that you acquire will stand you in good stead in relation to many aspects of contemporary life and will enable you to produce a portfolio of creative work to demonstrate your design and technical skills.

Alongside fundamental drawing and painting techniques, students are also able to explore printmaking, photography, design, textiles, model making and animation. As part of the course there are opportunities to take part in study visits to national contemporary galleries.

Art A level compliments A levels in English Literature, History, Politics, Business, Sociology, Psychology, Film Studies, Communication & Culture, Media Studies, Mathematics and Photography.
