Graphic designers are skilled at combining elements such as text, graphics and images to communicate a message to a target audience.  This might be in the form of a poster, magazine, some packaging, a website, film credits, a TV commercial or even in a computer game. The final product has to be both eye-catching to get the attention of the viewer and also has to serve a purpose.

A Level Graphic Design is ideal for anyone who wishes to progress to university/college or pursue a career in the Design Industry.

On the course you will explore the fundamentals of Graphic Design:

  • illustration & mark making
  • signs, symbolism and other non-verbal communication methods.
  • letter forms & typography,
  • photography,
  • positioning of graphic elements in a layout

You will also learn about the importance of drawing skills in finding solutions to creative problems using flair, imagination and personal initiative.  This will be achieved  through developing a thorough understanding of what is involved in the design process- carrying out initial research in response to a given brief;  developing ideas  through to the production of a finished design. Towards the end of the year, you will produce a personal study which will be presented in both written and visual form.
