The Aspirations Programme offers courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. These courses help you improve your reading, writing, communication and number skills. We have courses to help you improve your independent living skills, for example shopping and cooking. We also have courses to help you develop your creative skills by designing and making things.
Subjects:
We offer classes in history, IT, cooking, art, dance, video, ceramics, British Sign Language, science, shopping, healthcare, music, literacy, textiles, childcare, healthy living and sports.
Certificates:
You will decide what you want to learn. You will decide what you want to improve on. You will get certificates that show you what you have achieved on your course.
Days and Times:
Classes run 10.00 am-12.30pm and/or 1.30pm-4.00pm Monday to Friday and you can choose to do 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 classes a week and fit coming to college with what you already do now.
Lunch and Breaks:
There is a half hour break in the morning classes and a half hour break in the afternoon classes. Lunch is 12.30-1.30 for those who do morning and afternoon classes on the same day. You will need to pay for your own food or bring a packed lunch.
Semesters:
We have two semesters each year. Semester 1 starts in September and ends in February. Semester 2 starts in February and ends in July. You can change your timetable in February and choose different subjects to study.
Support:
Each class has 8 students with a teacher and an education support worker. Cooking classes only have 6 students with a teacher and an education support worker. You can have support in class and during the breaks and lunch times.
Enrolling:
Most students enrol in September and February but you can also enrol on any course at any time during the year.
