These qualifications prepare you to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings These could include nurseries, children's centres, home-based child care, pre-schools or schools. you will study a range of subjects for example:

  • Play and learning in children's education
  • Curriculum frameworks
  • Partnership with parents
  • Child development from 0-16 years
  • Keeping children safe and healthy
  • Child observations
  • Cultural diversity

You are required to do at least two days a week work placement in an appropriate setting, for which you need to have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.

You will be assessed through assignments, work placement logs, visits and an externally assessed case study exam.

Entry requirements: a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A-C, interview and initial assessments.

Where this course might take me: 
Early Years / Foundation Stage practitioner, special educational needs support worker, nanny, children's centre practitioner. You may be able to progress onto the HND Advanced in Early Years Level 4 or university courses in primary education, teaching, nursing, paediatrics, foundation degrees, early childhood studies degrees.
