The Diploma in Creative and Media is part of the new national qualifications designed with schools, colleges, universities, awarding bodies and employers to broaden the choice of courses for 14-19 year olds.

Are you creative? Do you like films, drawing, painting, making things, taking pictures, using the computer? Do you enjoy learning through practical hands-on experience? On this course you will carry out activities to do with Art & Design, where you produce your own pottery, Computer Graphics where you will create your own CD cover and Video Production, where you will make your own film. You will also make your very own project where you will look at all aspects of portraiture, including artists who work in that genre, finally producing your own interpretation of what portraiture means to you personally. At the end of the year you will present your work in an exhibition at the college to which you can invite members of staff in the college, friends and family.

As well as developing new skills in these areas you will be studying English, Maths and ICT as part of your Diploma course and have the opportunity to do work experience, where you can try out the skills you've learnt in the classroom. In 2009-10 learners worked for two weeks at the Half Moon Theatre in Stepney.

Trips to museums, art galleries to investigate paintings and sculpture and visits to the theatre, where you get to go back stage are an essential part of the course. You will have the opportunity to talk to visiting professionals who work in creative and media and go to Rich Mix a well-known multi-media complex in Shoreditch where you will be able to interview musicians.
