Art & Design

Course Aims
    •    To offer you the opportunity  to improve your speaking, reading and writing of English at E3 level
    •    To enable you to learn a  variety of Art and Design skills and techniques
    •    To create a portfolio of creative work which can be used for progression to Art, Design or Computer Graphics
          courses

Course Content
This course provides an introduction to art and design skills related to the creative and media industry. Students will be taught through a variety of creative projects.  A different topic will be covered every 2 or 4 weeks. Examples of subjects covered include: drawing, printing, typography, graphic design and fashion.  The programme consists of practical work in art and computer studios, writing, speaking and listening which takes place in a classroom. You will also visit exhibitions in order to expand your knowledge and gather research  for  your projects. The emphasis of the course is on creativity- learning to express ideas through writing, speaking and through drawing and making.
 
Sample Course
Course projects are updated and changed regularly but listed below is an example of what might be covered:
    •    Drawing:  Recording objects and people from your surroundings
    •    Mixed Media: Experimenting with different mark-making techniques to create a variety of effects
    •    Fashion: Creating your own designs developing ideas by looking at current fashion and visiting shows.
    •    Digital Photography: Take and transform photographs through the use of digital cameras and computer graphics.
    •    Graphic Design: Create your own publicity materials such as invitations, posters, greetings cards etc
    •    Painting: Learn about mixing and using paint to create work in relation to fashion, interior design and graphic design


At the end of the course students will:

    •    have an insight to the creative industries through the exploration of  different techniques and materials used in the workplace
    •    increase their understanding of how to express their ideas through drawing, making, writing and speaking
    •    be able to progress to a level 2 Creative Course
