FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN LAND-BASED STUDIES

Tower Hamlets College, in a unique and special collaborative partnership with Dockland’s Mudchute City Farm, will be offering
a brand new Foundation Learning programme in Land based Studies from September 2010.

With learning taking place at the College and with working hands on at the farm, you will gain a brilliant insight into working with small and large animals, including horses and Equestrian skills, plant care and gardening. You will gain real life experience working on a farm and will work to achieve a number of qualifications along the way.

These are new practical qualifications designed to help learners gain the skills they would need to work in the land based sector. A wide range of units are available covering horticulture, agriculture and animal care. The qualification is designed for learners who may be interested in working in agriculture in the future. It is also suitable for learners who may be entering employment for the first time or those wishing to change their career or occupation. Some units have been designed as taster units eg Unit 3 Understanding Soils, to give learners an opportunity to experience some types of work in horticulture and soil science. The course gives a broad overview of the tasks involved with looking after animals and looking after plants. Whilst learning the skills and knowledge for their chosen pathway, learners will also be developing employability skills, eg meeting deadlines, teamwork, following written and oral instructions.

This is a brilliant opportunity and places are very limited.
