Who is the course for?

Those people who have already completed substantial counselling skills training and wish to enter professional counselling training.

What will I study on the course?

In the Diploma you will learn about:

•Defining ethics and boundaries and setting up effective working practices
•Further counselling skills and practice
•Develop an understanding of different theoretical approaches to the therapeutic relationship within an integrative framework
•Develop a strong working alliance
•Encouraging self-critical and self-evaluative skills (internal supervisor)
•Exploring the supervision relationship and develop supervisee skills
•Taking part in supervised counselling practice
•Contributing towards further personal development and personal accreditation.

What will I need for the course?

An Advanced Diploma in Counselling or equivalent is a requirement.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through your understanding of aspects of counselling theory, deeper level skills practice and work within a personal development group plus, a conventional examination paper is set and marked by AQA. You will be observed and need to write assignments. You will also need to engage in regular counselling practice (minimum of 100 hours over the two years).

How long is the course?

The course is delivered for one day a week for two years. There will be residential weekends in each year.

Will this course lead to a qualification?

An AQA Higher Diploma in Counselling Practice which can also lead to an accreditation of 90 Master Degree credits as progression towards a Professional Masters Degree
