BTEC level 3 Extended Diplomas in Applied Science
Tower Hamlets College is offering the new BTEC level 3 Diplomas in Applied Science. These qualifications are part of our Health Science Pathway. There are two options:
The BTEC Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels in study time and in UCAS points. This is a complete fulltime course. We will interview you to explore your option based upon what qualifications you have, and depending on how you wish to progress.
These courses are ideal for students wishing to take a general Science qualification that will give entry to university or employment. They are vocational qualifications, which means that each course is a complete package of science units, with extra emphasis on the practical. Most of the assessment is coursework based with few exams. This means you will receive much more one-one support from your teachers on this course compared to an AS level programme. Assessment is by assignments that build into a portfolio of work.
The Extended Diploma is a two year programme, on which you will study 18 units across the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics; including units on ‘Working in the Science Industry’, some mathematics and some IT.
The courses are delivered through a mix of lecturers, standard laboratory practical tasks, more extended practical investigations and student research. Tower Hamlets College has excellent Science labs and a strong record of success. Our new BTEC Diploma are designed for students who want to follow a career in Bio-chemical, Health, or Medical Sciences.
