This award prepares you for work or further study in the care and health work sector. If you are new to care work it will give you a
broad knowledge base for the care needs of individuals. The course links theory with practice allowing you to explore the relationship between what you learn in the classroom and your observations when practising in a care setting. You will also look at work-related issues in the care sector and develop your skills in preparation for future employment.

You will study science as well as theories relating to learning disability, mental health, physical disability, the care and health needs associated with older age, and research models for working with people. You will reflect on your work experience, discuss carerelated issues and investigate national and local policy. As well as tutor-led activities and individual and group support, you will make use of a range of resources in your own study.

Assignments include reports, projects and case studies, and laboratory work.

Entry Requirements:
Level 2 qualifications: Five GCSEs (you must have a Level 2 English / Maths / science qualification), a BTEC first diploma or a care related NVQ Level 2. You will be interviewed and must demonstrate an interest in care work. We will also ask for a reference from your current tutor.
