This 2 year course has been specifically designed and validated to cover the educational requirements that would enhance employment in the public services, or provide a sound base for a range of subjects in higher education.

The National Diploma consists of 18 units:

  • Citizenship and contemporary issues
  • International perspectives
  • Data interpretation
  • The uniformed services
  • Physical preparation for the Uniformed Services
  • Diversity
  • Expedition skills
  • Human behaviour

  • Dealing with accidents
  • Teamwork in the Public Services
  • Outdoor activities
  • Major incidents
  • Democratic processes
  • Health and Fitness
  • Working with children

Students may be required to participate in a work experience programme as an integral part of the course, where this is appropriate. This course includes a number of visits, including Army Days, the Royal Courts of Justice, the Houses of Parliament and camping in the New Forest. The cost of these trips is £50. Optional residential trips are often organised for students and these can cost between £300 and £600.

Who this course is for: 
The course is suitable for those students wishing to follow a career in the armed forces, police service, fire service, ambulance service, HM Customs and Excise, outdoor activity centres, prison and security services and voluntary organisations.
Where this course might take me: 
This course is a recognised route into Higher Education. Students may progress to a Higher National Diploma or Degree course.
