We aim to provide you with:

  • a teaching qualification that fulfils Government requirements for Skills for Life teachers in the Life-long Learning sector
  • the foundation for developing your competence as a Literacy or ESOL classroom practitioner
  • knowledge of current government policy and other initiatives in post-compulsory education and training
  • the knowledge and ability to reflect constructively on your professional practice
  • a number of credits that can be taken forward for further study at MA level.

Entry Requirements:

  • Success at interview and initial assessment
  • The provision of an acceptable Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau
  • Ability to study at university level
  • A high level of spoken and written English

( And for Year 2 Only):

  • A minimum of 3 hours of Literacy or ESOL teaching per week
  • A recognised qualification and relevant experience of teaching ESOL or Literacy

Entry Requirements: 
The PGCE Literacy or ESOL leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS) which new/unqualified teachers in the sector are required to achieve
