Like many students, Donaldson During left university with a sizeable debt. He graduated in Human Resources, and had hoped to work in the financial services sector. However, concerned to pay off his loan, he accepted the first job he was offered – a temporary post in the charity sector.

“I worked in various roles for a couple of years while trying to apply for positions that really interested me in financial services companies, but I didn’t have the experience in the financial sector,” says Donaldson. “Then I heard about the National Skills Academy for Financial Services from a cousin, who studied there and then got a good job in the sector. I took advice from Employment Solutions at Tower Hamlets College, and enrolled on the Securities and Investment Institute (SII) Introduction to Securities and Investment course. “This turned out to be the passport to fulfilling my ambition. The College arranged a work placement for me with a major investment bank, and now I am employed in the HR department of Credit Suisse, which is fantastic. “I would really recommend the SII course. It really gave me the confidence and the knowledge to get my foot in the door at Canary Wharf. It’s hard work, but well worth it.”

The Introduction to Securities and Investment course, and many other Financial Services courses run consistently through the year.
