A record number of Tower Hamlets College students head to university all over the UK, including Cambridge
A record 329 students from Tower Hamlets College’s Poplar site were awarded places at British universities this year, with many having already headed off to their respective destinations in time for the start of the academic year. From Edinburgh to East London, Coventry to Cambridge, the students really have spread their wings this year and have been accepted to a total of 45 different institutions. Overall, 81% of all those who applied were awarded a place at university. Head of Sixth Form Francoise Beregovoi is delighted and said “Every year it is great to see how the students progress and go on to achieve their goals, it reflects all the work they and their teachers have put in.”
Over 10% of all those heading to university chose locations outside London while a number were awarded places at leading universities including Imperial College, King’s College and The London School of Economics. One such case is that of Sam Pointon, 18, who has recently started his first term reading Maths at Clare College, Cambridge having achieved three A grades in his A Level results. “Obviously I was delighted to get such good results and to get into Cambridge University was a bit of a culture shock at first in terms of both the course and the social aspect, but I think going to college helped me as it bridged the gap between the regimented nature of a school and the independence of uni. The fact I am studying Maths here owes a lot to college’s willingness to take a gamble as they let me take the Further Maths A Level course despite my only getting a B at GCSE Maths.”
THC wishes all of our former students the best of luck in their future studies and career.
