Students at Tower Hamlets College have once again surpassed themselves by achieving some outstanding results. Eight students this year gained straight A and A* grades and fifteen more students gained two As or A*s. Pass rates were also high, with a 94% overall pass rate at A2 level and with six subjects achieving 100% pass rates at A2 level.
The mathematics department, in particular, obtained some spectacular results with well over half of A2 Maths and Further Maths students obtaining A*-B grades.

Haiqin Zhuang was awarded an A* in Maths and two As in Further Maths and Physics. She will be applying for university this autumn and wants to read maths. “I can’t believe it” she exclaimed. “I was so worried I might have failed. I’m just so pleased!”
Aminul Islam gained straight As in his A-Levels. This means he has obtained his place at Kings College London to study medicine. He has also been awarded a £5,000 bursary to go towards his studies. “I feel so happy” said Aminul. “I was nervous this morning but it’s all over now and I feel great.”

Aside from A-levels, there were also some great results from various BTEC courses. There was a 100% pass rate for all BTEC IT Practitioner courses (Diploma and Certificate) and 39 BTEC students gained straight distinctions - the highest grade possible.

Nana Tawiah, got straight distinctions in his BTEC National Diploma in Sport. He has been awarded a bursary of £6000 to go towards university. He starts his sports science course at Brunel in the autumn. “It hasn’t sunk it yet,” said Nana. “I love this feeling though! All the hard work I put in has been worth it.”

“These results demonstrate how the College continues to build on its success.” said Gerry McDonald, Vice-Principal. “The students should be rightly proud of themselves and the hard work they have put in. In particular, I wish the A2 students every luck in what they choose to do next.”

Many students are heading to university, with several going to some of the country’s top establishments. Aniqa Mortuza achieved an A* and two As and has therefore gained her place at the University of Cambridge to read History. She was not here today for us to congratulate her however, as she is currently in Brazil on The Prime Minister's Global Fellowship Programme.
Nisma Akhtar, who gained two As and a B, has got her place at LSE to study sociology, starting this autumn. “I’m so excited. I’m still buzzing,” Nisma grinned.
