Yasmin Akbar's Success Story
A winning combination of skills has launched Yasmin Akbar into a promising career in international banking. While doing her A levels in Germany Yasmin landed a work placement with Deutsch Bank, which sparked her enthusiasm for investment banking. She heard about the ‘Bridge to Finance’ Securities & Investment course at the National Skills Academy for Financial Services from a friend in England and was keen to learn more about the industry. Subsequently, Yasmin became a job seeker resident in Tower Hamlets and attended the course.
She says: "The course is a very good foundation for investment banking. It gave me a stronger CV, employability skills, confidence and excellent contacts."
After the course, Yasmin carried out a six month assignment as an administrator with Employment Solutions and the Business Development Unit at Tower Hamlets College. She says: “This gave me valuable experience which helped me get a place on the preemployment programme with Citi.”
Following the four week training, the bank offered Yasmin a temporary contract in their Germanic Corporate Action Department.
“I am able to use all of the valuable investment knowledge I learned as well as my language skills - this is exactly what I wanted,” she says. “I would like to thank the National Skills Academy, Employment Solutions and the Bridge to Finance project for all the support and advice they have given me.”
