Our range of literacy (English) and numeracy (maths) programmes for adult learners are for students who speak English confidently. If you need to learn English language skills you need to apply for an ESOL course, see the ESOL section.

 

All literacy and numeracy classes are free to the majority of learners.

Please note that all of our advice sessions take place during term time only.

Levels E1, E2 and E3 and Levels 1 and 2: You will learn in small groups (12-16) with other students who are at the same level. When you have successfully completed your course you will receive a certificate and be able to progress onto other college courses. For literacy you will study 7.5 hours per week during the day or 2.5 hours in the evening, whilst for numeracy you will study 2.5 hours per week during the day or evening.

 Courses are offered at the following venues:

  • Bethnal Green Centre, 229 Bethnal Green Road E2 6AB
  • Idea Store, Chrisp Street, 1 Vesey Path, East India Dock Rd E14 6BT
  • Around 35 local centres across the borough.

How to join a course

You must make an appointment for an initial advice session. Advice sessions take place during term time only. The adviser will assess you and find a suitable class for you.
