At AS level you will gain an insight into how conflict impacted upon Britain’s social reforms. You will study the Crimean, Second Boer and First World Wars, examining developments in modern medical care, the army and the creation of the welfare state. You will also look at the role of nationalism in the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Spanish Civil War.

At A2 level you will study the impact of the French Revolution and the reign of terror that followed. You will learn about Napoleon and the eventual restoration of the Bourbon monarchy. Finally, you will have to complete a piece of coursework focused upon how the USA developed into a great power during the 19th Century.

Where this course might take me: 
You can progress to university to study subjects such as History, Law, Politics, International Relations, Development Studies, Economics and Philosophy. In the long term you can progress into careers in the Legal Profession, Journalism, Civil Service, Local Government, Teaching, Archives and Museums.
