Careers and University

Tower Hamlets College has fantastic links with many businesses in Canary Wharf and The City. This means as a student here, you have access to great opportunities including work experience, mentoring, bursaries and internships. On top of this, lots of our lecturers come from industry, so they know first-hand exactly what you need to do to get a job at the end of your education, whether that is straight from college, or after a university degree.

National Careers Service

Careers advice for students over 19 is provided by our National Careers Service Advisers. We can help you write your CV or personal statement, and you can come and talk to one of our careers advisers if you are stuck with making those important decisions about what to do next. There’s also the Higher Education Fair, where you can find out about university courses, and we arrange visits to Open Days at various universities. If you are looking at going straight into employment then you can take advantage of the interview practice we offer, or use our job board to help you find what you are looking for.

Well Connected to Universities

If your sights are set high and you expect to get the top grades, our links with Clare College, Cambridge, may help you get into one of the world’s leading universities. We help to get students into the best London universities including University College London amongst others. Our students can receive mentoring and revision classes from Queen Mary, University of London, as well as taster days, master classes and progression agreements from London South Bank University, help with personal statements and advice on finance from the University of East London. These steps helped to ensure that 82% of our students who applied to university in 2014 got in – well above the national average.

Where do our Students go?

Our students go on to a wide range of careers, some choosing to take the university route first, and others go directly into employment. Students who decide to go to university study a range of subjects including Medicine, Law, Architecture, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Economics, Fine Art, History, International Politics, Mathematics, Medical Genetics, Mechanical Engineering and Sciences. Students choose to head to top London universities such as UCL, King's College, Queen Mary, University of the Arts and SOAS, as well as ones near to home like Goldsmiths, UEL and Greenwich. Some of our students choose to go to well respected regional universities like Birmingham, Bristol, Coventry, Southampton, Leeds and York.
