Leanne Doig is Apprentice of the Year
Tower Hamlets College student Leanne Doig has won the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Apprentice of the Year award. Leanne, 21, was presented with her award at a prestigious awards ceremony at City Hall in London attended by over 200 people.
Her success is all the more remarkable as she has triumphed in the traditionally male dominated construction industry.
Judges praised Leanne’s enthusiasm and strong commitment to the apprenticeship scheme, alongside her willingness to learn and get stuck in, becoming a valued member of the team. She also received a special recognition for her commitment to health and safety.
Leanne has worked as a trainee construction operative apprentice with BAM Nuttall since December 2012 on a number of large projects including the Lee Valley VeloPark and Timber Lodge Café.
Commenting on her award Leanne said:
“Winning the award means so much to me. My apprenticeship is just the start of my career. I want to run my own business one day and hire lots of women, because we need more women in construction.’
