Student Culture

College is what you make it!

If you are outgoing, personable and want to tell others about Tower Hamlets College, then you might want to be a Student Ambassador. You will volunteer at events like Open Evenings, chatting to prospective students and helping out staff. You will gain valuable work experience and skills that can be added to your CV, assist you with your university application or help you into work.

Our Enrichment Team facilitates trips throughout the year, such as museum visits and cinema trips. There are lots of internal activities from talent shows to debates, charity days to Fashion shows.

Places to re-energise

Our Atrium is a place to re-energise between classes, where you can grab a drink from Costa Coffee or a sandwich from our new Subway - the only one in any college in the UK - and catch up with friends. If you want to use our games consoles (Wii, Xbox and PlayStation), then visit our interactive room in the Workhouse.

If you want to get involved in sport, the Workhouse is also our sports facility, with changing rooms and showers. Play badminton, volleyball, table tennis, basketball and take part in aerobic activities including street dance, boxercise and Zumba. We also have two flood lit 3G football pitches and are affiliated with local and national sports associations including SESSA, Badminton England and the Olympic Legacy ‘festival of sports’.

Student Life

College life is about getting fantastic grades, but it is also about making some great friends, getting involved in extra-curricular activities, and being ready to go on to the world of work or university.

Students’ Union, Voluteering and getting involved

The Students’ Union is the perfect way to get truly involved in College life. You are the voice of the learner, and help make College even better than it already is. Not only does it make your time at Tower Hamlets College more enjoyable, but it also looks great on your CV. At Tower Hamlets College, you can make things happen. Why not set up a society? Music, books, chess, jewellery, films, politics – whatever your interest, if you can find 10 other students interested in the same thing you can apply to create your own society. We also link up with various London based and national volunteering agencies – Sports Makers, The Challenge, Thames 21 (leading waterways charity), Volunteering England and Toynbee Hall.

Virtual Learning Environment

Our virtual learning environment, Moodle, allows all our learners to access their work from anywhere. This means you can access your personal learning information and monitor your progress at your convenience. You can also contact your teachers online if you’ve got any worries when you are out of the classroom. Access the student intranet to find out about activities happening at College, university Open Days, potential volunteering opportunities and work experience placements.
